Inquiry | Emergency Shelters

Emergency Shelters are used to protect people from disasters. Disaster like earthquakes, storms, rain and  volcanic eruptions.

An Emergency Shelter needs the correct material. Concrete is the strongest material for storm protection because when a thunderstorm strikes concrete nothing will happen.

The materials that were picked were concrete because it is good for storm protection because when the storm hits it won't fall.

Wool was picked because  it can keep things warm.

Wood was picked because it can protect the roof from falling.

Inquariy

Insulates are used to stop heat from moving place to place. A good insulator keeps heat from escaping from the materials.

There were different kinds of materials there were paper cups, plastic, glass, metal, polystyrene, and tin cans.

A good insulator keeps heat from escaping from the materials. A bad insulator is when the heat escapes from the materiel.

Polystyrene is the best materials out of both experiments because it keep everything cool and warm

Technology/Inquiry

This week for inquiry my group and I we were doing experiments.

We did this experiment to see how much water would be absorbed by sand, nappies, stones, paper towels, and cotton. The experiment my group did was seeing how much water stones could absorb.

First we needed to gather our materials to start the experiment. Next we measured 100mls of water into a beaker.

Then we poured the 100mls of water into a measuring container.

The results were it didn't absorb much of the water. We only found it absorbed about 4mls.

I enjoined this activity because I learnt lots of new stuff.

Risk

This week we learnt about risks.

We rated situations on low risk, likely risk, possible risk, evaluated risk, and extreme risk. Low is In most cases are risks that can be  avoided by common sense. Likely in most cases can be avoided by common sense with application of skill. Possible are Risks that are contained by application of safety procedures. Evaluated is something that safety procedures only limit some danger. Extreme is something that out number the safety procedures and danger that is about to happen.

Later we wrote our own situations that match each risk level.

Low, Likely, possible, evaluated, and extreme, all describe different levels of risk.

Cook Island Language Week

This week for Cook Island language week I did a activity.

For this topic we needed to pick one activity from a large list. I chose how to pronounce different kinds of food in Cook Island language.

It was hard to practice the words because that was my first time speaking Cook Island. After a few practises I really knew the words.

I also needed to record my self on screencastify pronouncing the words.

I really enjoyed learning Cook Island words.

L.I To learn about Cook Island language.

Light And Sound

In our inquiry we learnt about light and sound.

Sound is the vibrations that can be heard form someone. Light is power that makes things visible.

The first activity we did was vocabulary. We connected the meaning to the right word.

Our second activity was to find draw, animate and act. We had to find photos of the word like vibrate. Vibrate means shaking your body. For act we made videos. For find we did our four words and added the photos. For draw we drew Vibration, sound wave, reflect and echo.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt new facts.

L.I  To learn the vocabulary of light and sound.

Properties Of Light

Light is something that can shine in the dark.

The first property is opaque things block light.

The second property was the light reflects where the angle of the mirror is.

The third property was light can go through transparent things.

There are more properties on the DLO.

L.I To observe properties of light.

Properties Of Sound

Properties is something that people own. Sound is made by vibrating object/thing

The first property is sound can travel in all directions. Mr Wong had a 1 meter ruler and a soccer ball he doped the ball from every direction and all the meter cept on changing.

The second property is sound can travel in all corners. Mr Wong clapped from the front of his computer the meter went up but when Mr Wong clapped from the back of the wall the meter went low.

The third one is sound dissipates as it travels. When Mr Wong bounce the ball one meter away from his computer the went 80 dB. But when he went away from his computer it went to 59 dB.
