South Pacific Beats is an article about Rachel Hall's Pato.
The Pato is a modern drum that sounds like the traditional Tongan instrument called the lali. The Pato's body is made from maple hardwood. The pato has a microphone that can be connected to a computer.
Rachael Hall used a milling machine and a lathe to create the Pato.
When Pato is struck, sound waves bounce back and forth inside the hollow chamber creating a full and vibrant sound.
