Kapa Haka Preformnce

This week we watched a kapa haka group perform for the school.

The first thing that happened was that they did an entrance ceremony and then started to perform. When they entered they used a conch to let the people know they are coming. Then they introduce their weapons and tools during a song and dance.

The last thing LS1 did was play a Maori game called Maui and Matua with Matua Ngarimu. We used the rakau's and we would have to move to the left if they said Maui but if they say Matau we would move right.

We thanked the kapa haka group by the boys from our kapa haka group performing the haka.

I enjoyed watching this kapa haka performance. My favourite part was when they showed different moves for the Rakau.

A big game of Touch

At touch rugby we carried on with the two and three man settle. We also learned how to share the ball when your on the five meter line.

Two man settle is when I have the ball and my other friend is dummy half. A dummy half is the person that is picks up the ball. First I need to run to the defender that's gonna touch me. After taking the touch I need to plant the ball so my friend can take the ball and pass it to me again.

A three man settle is basically the same thing. First I need to take the touch. Then I plant the ball. After planting the ball the dummy half quickly picks up the ball and passes it to the player that is next to him.

Then we played a game of touch. The aim of this game is to practise how to play touch, also using two and three man settle.

I really enjoyed using using three and two man settles in a game of attacking and defending. One thing I think I could work on is getting everyone involved in the game and moving straight forward to score a try.

Moari Names and conversation

Today I matched English names with Maori names.

We were given clues to help us match the names without using Maori dictonary. The boys names were in highlited in blue to help us match names.

Next I tried to translate a conversation in Maori to English. We were allowed to use the maori dictonary to help us translate the sentences.

For example:
Tēna koutou katoa     Greeting to you all

Ko John taku ingoa    My name is John

Inquiry | Emergency Shelters

Emergency Shelters are used to protect people from disasters. Disaster like earthquakes, storms, rain and  volcanic eruptions.

An Emergency Shelter needs the correct material. Concrete is the strongest material for storm protection because when a thunderstorm strikes concrete nothing will happen.

The materials that were picked were concrete because it is good for storm protection because when the storm hits it won't fall.

Wool was picked because  it can keep things warm.

Wood was picked because it can protect the roof from falling.

The Last one I did was eights. I cut one whole cup into eight pieces. First we drew a line and cut into halves. Next we had to draw another line and then cut it into quarters. Lastly we had to draw one more line and cut it into eights.

Last I took a picture of them and put them on a slide.

Comment Thread

Today I decided to comment on Texas reading blog post. Thread means having a conversation.

My question was "what was your favourite part about the story?".

I really enjoyed reading Texas story.

I enjoyed using open questions and close questions.

Writing | Storyboard

Storyboards are pictures that show characters, the movements of the characters and the camera angles.

When writing a storyboard the images should have enough detail so the reader can know where the setting is without telling people where it is. Some people film it on different angles and show the emotions on the characters face to make it more interesting.

There are no words in the image because the main ideas is to show the setting, the angles of the camera and the characters.

Knowing how to write a storyboard is important because it can help actors understand it flows. Storyboards help people visualise the people's surroundings and environment.

Kiwisport

Today at Touch Rugby we learned two basic skills. Their called two man settle and three man settle.

A two man settle is when I have the ball and my other friend is dummy half.

The aim of this game was to use three man settle and two man settle, two man settle and three man settle helps gaining meters.

I found it easy because I already knew two of the skills.

Fractions

A fraction is a whole thing cut into equal pieces.

For example I had one whole pizza. I shared it with my friend. First I cut the pizza it into halves, after cutting it into halves you cut it again into halves sideways and that would be quarters. So then my friend and me get two equal pieces of pizza.

For some more examples look at the photos below.

Film Festival

On Wednesday different kinds of Manaiakalani schools went to the film festival that was held in Hoyts in Sylvia Park.

Our film was about sanitising. Most films about covid were about five meter distancing and spreading the disease.

My favourite movie was Glenn Innes's compliment project. I really enjoyed it because in this movie they were showing respect after bullying the kid.

Screen Play/Script Writing.

Screenplays are scripts that are converted into speaking parts only.

The actors line is centre aligned under their name. The lines don't need speech marks because it could help what tone to use.

A screenplay scene number should be in all caps. The name also should be in caps and centre aligned.

Knowing how to write a screenplay is important because actors understand how to say their lines and what their lines are.
